Five Coin Purses

Last weekend we finally had a (somewhat) free weekend. We ran a trail race and hung out with friends on Saturday and on Sunday I did a long run and got to sew quite a bit.

A few weeks ago I was at a fabric store in Portland, Z Fabrics. As I was checking out I saw a cute little snap purse. I mentioned its cuteness to the clerk and she said, "We sell the pattern, it's right there" (points to 4 inches away from my hand). I snatched up a copy and put it in my pile before I could even think otherwise.

I knew I wanted to make two for my friends Allie and Cait. They had a surprise party last night, unfortunately I couldn't go but I wanted to give them something anyways. I set out to make two of the purses last weekend. Then I found so many scraps of fabric that called to me: "Lauren, make us into tiny coin purses too! We're so small, you'll never use us except for this project. Do it  TODAY!"Instead of making two I made five.

They came together pretty fast. I only had three snaps so for two I used velcro.

Here's all of them. Two are for Allie and Cait, one if for Cait's roommate, Carla who was in on the sending of the gifts, and the other two are for my cousins, Mia and Macy.

For some reason I think it is hilarious to give people copies of the school picture that was taken of me this year. I included a copy in my cousin's coin purses.

I hope everyone likes them.

Happy Weekend!

Wedding Talk

I had hoped to not turn this into a wedding blog with the upcoming nuptials. However, it seems that with the exception of hand quilting I have not been sewing much and instead have been doing lot of wedding stuff.

As you can imagine, being the blog lover that I am I have started reading, or more accurately looking at pictures, from lots of wedding blogs.  Here is a list of wedding blogs I have recently become addicted to. Don't be surprised if you see many of the ideas used in our wedding.

Ruffled
Wedding Chicks
Style Me Pretty
Real Maine Weddings

I am already trying to bookmark house building blogs and websites so I don't go into total blog withdrawal after July 16th.

Lastly, since I am into shamelessly promoting my insanely talented friends. Here is a picture of the save the dates we sent out.

Our new friend Karina designed them. She's a graphic designer, and a fantastic one at that. She said she wanted to do our wedding invites etc, I sent her every picture I could find of invites and save the dates from above mentioned blogs, we e-mailed about 100 times and this is the final product. I couldn't be more thrilled with them, and am very appreciative of all of the hard work Karina put into them. You should check out her website if you're in the market for anything graphic design related. She also is a miracle worker when it comes to home design, and refinishing old furniture. Her peacock inspired dinning room is to die for.

That's all for wedding nonsense.

I'll be back sometime with some sewing projects.

::Right Now::

Right now, I am...
:: watching the sun melt away all of yesterday's snow.
:: loving my new biscuit cutter, one of the few things we registered for that I knew I would use more than Charlie.
:: wanting a big hug.
:: looking through lots of old pictures and remember good times.
:: heading out for a long run, with no route in mind, just going to run.
:: patting my belly after eating far too many homemade soft pretzels.
:: enjoying a weekend off, there aren't many of those left on the calendar.
:: appreciating all of the lovely comments and e-mails I've received from friends and family.
:: surprising myself with my motivation to suddenly finish the quilt, and surprising Charlie when he woke up to see the living room furniture pushed away to make room for sandwiching said quilt.
:: feeling grateful for having had yesterday off, even if it means another day in June.
:: working on hand quilting several hundred circles.
:: hoping you are having a wonderful weekend, and that you remember to tell someone you love them.
